Phillies' MVP shortstop Jimmy Rollins has more hardware for his trophy case. On Wednesday afternoon he was in center city to accept the prestigious Wanamaker athletic award.
Rollins (above left) admits that he didn't know much about the city's Wanamaker Award -- presented to the athlete who has brought the most credit to Philadelphia. But when he was told that previous winners included Wilt Chamberlain, Mike Schmidt, Bobby Clarke, and Reggie White, he realized the significance of the honor:
"I was like, 'Oh, okay, that's pretty good. I guess that means something. So I guess they think pretty highly of me in this city. And that's a good thing, because this is not an easy city to come and be accepted."
The Sports Congress Community Service Award went to Villanova football coach Andy Talley (above right), for his work with the National Marrow Donor program.
