Bryn Mawr Mom Sentenced in Drunk Driving Death

by KYW's Tony Hanson

A 24-year-old single mother of a five-year-old girl has been sentenced to prison for a DUI death.

The tragic accident that killed Imani Davis, 41, happened on City Line Avenue a year ago.

Defendant Miranda Casalena of Bryn Mawr, Pa. has been sentenced to 4-8 years in prison.

Prosecutor John Carle -- who says Casalena was drunk when she lost control of  her car, hit a median and went airborne, landing on the victim’s car -- believes the sentence is appropriate:

"It's slightly above the mandatory minimum because she had what the judge called a 'warning call' a few years ago, when she was arrested for DUI in Chester County in 2003."

Davis died almost instantly. It was the second horrific loss for the family. They say Imani’s mother, Julia Davis, was killed 18 years ago by a drunk driver and there was no justice that time. But this time, they believe, justice has been done.
