There may be nothing more frustrating that driving around searching for a center city parking space. Now, the folks at Philadelphia Parking Authority are looking at wireless sensors that could make your search easier.
Finding a metered space in center city is often just a matter of dumb luck. But the parking authority is considering wireless technology -- sensors installed at on-street parking spaces.
The authority's planning director, Rick Dickson, says on you'd get that lists of open spaces at a website using your Internet capable cell phone or pda:
"(At the website) you would go to the address where you would want to park, and it would display for the parking spaces that are open within a specific defined area around that location, space that are open at that time."
San Francisco is now in the midst of a major test of this technology. Dickson says the parking authority has already contacted vendors about this but there's no firm decision to move forward.
