A new web survey says Philadelphia is the fifth most walkable city in the nation, but a local proponent of 
walkability says we can do more.
Walkscore.com ranks walkability in 40 US cities, and places Philadelphia number five, behind San Francisco, New York, Boston, and Washington, DC.
And center city is, not surprisingly, the most walkable of all Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Paul Levy (right), head of the Center City District, is not surprised the city is in the top five:
"Philadelphia's competitive strength is that we were designed, particularly in an around the downtown, before the automobile created really wide streets. So the ability to walk here is extremely good."
But Levy says Philadelphia's walkability can be improved even further in a number of ways, and he points to just-announced improvements to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway as an example of what can be done.
