A collection of election memorabilia goes on display this week at the Betsy Ross house in Old City Philadelphia.
The election collection -- "Marching to the White House" -- includes campaign buttons, handkerchiefs, flags, and never-before-displayed items like parade uniforms.
But retired psychiatrist and lifelong collector Dr. Jeffrey Kenneth Kohn (above) notes that the collection contains the ridiculous as well as the sublime:
"How about a record? 'Elvis Presley for President.' Copywritten in 1988 by two fellows. But what's fascinating is Elvis was dead for 11 years and they still wanted to vote him president!"
How about a little bathroom social commentary?
"Most presidents since the '60s, someone put on toilet paper. So this is Jimmy Carter, who was not very popular during his second campaign. So someone told you what they wanted to do with Jimmy Carter."
