The controversial practice of posting police officers at the Osage Avenue house once owned by the radical group MOVE is now history.
For two decades, Philadelphia police officers have been posted discreetly, 24/7, at the old MOVE House, which is now owned by the city.
Managing Director Pedro Ramos knew nothing of the detail until last week, and he says with a tight budget, there are better ways to monitor that site:
"We are in the process of updating some of the electronic security at the site, in addition to having a stepped-up patrol presence around the site. But in terms of the 24-hours presence that was inside the building, that has now come to an end."
The cost of the police detail on Osage Avenue was put at about a half-million dollars a year. Ramos says he’s not second-guessing decisions by prior administrations that led to the posting.
