For Returning Lower Merion HS Students It's, Like Totally, a Parking Crisis

by KYW's Mark Abrams

Students at Lower Merion High School in Montgomery County, Pa. were among those who headed back to class for the new school year on Tuesday, and they found a lot of changes.

Construction of the new high school behind the existing building along Montgomery Avenue has wiped out all parking behind the old building. And while there’s new faculty parking across the street, the school did not make provisions for students.

Adrianne is a senior from Bala Cynwyd. She still brought her car and a carload of friends to school to Tuesday. She parked along a neighborhood street nearby, but knows already it’s going to cost her:

“We’re going to get a 30-dollar ticket every day.”

Why is that?

“Because there’s no student parking and it’s two-hour parking everywhere. And they’re knocking down the school. There’s no parking lot.”

School officials say they prefer that students walk or get dropped off -- and even that drop-off area has a new traffic pattern, for which the district even posted a video on its web site to show you how to do that.
