The teachers' strike in the Souderton school district of Montgomery County, Pa. continues, following a bargaining session on Friday morning that lasted just one hour (see previous stories).

Talks between the Souderton Area School Board and the striking teachers' union broke off with no new sessions scheduled.

A spokesman for the teachers' union claims the school board didn't want to negotiate, and only wanted to add more items onto the table.

District negotiator Jeffery Sultanik (right) says he was ready to bargain but admits there were new proposals:

"How strike days would be made up, how certain supplemental contracts would be pro-rated as a result of the work stoppage."

Teachers' union spokesman Rob Broderick says the key items remain:

"Salaries and benefits remain the crucial issues, although there are other issues."

The strike, which started Tuesday morning, is affecting about 500 teachers and 6,900 students in 10 schools.
