Lansdale Catholic HS to Retain Name After Relocation

by KYW's John McDevitt

Lansdale Catholic High School in Montgomery County, Pa. gets to keep its' name when a replacement school is ready in about four years, even though the state of the art school will be in another town and county.

After an overwhelming amount of support from the community, Cardinal Justin Rigali -- the Archbishop of Philadelphia -- approved the name of the new high school planned to open in 2012.

Lansdale Catholic High School will be known as Lansdale Catholic Regional High School or LC Regional High School when it moves 8.3 miles into Hilltown Township in Bucks County.

The school's president James Casey says this is what the people want:

"The cardinal did give us permission to run a survey. We ran a online survey for probably about three weeks in June and we had over 2,000 people complete the survey. And of that survey, 72-percent of the respondents selected LC regional as their preference."

Casey says it was important to the community's perspective parents, current parents and alumni that Lansdale Catholic remain the new school's name.

"That's been the rallying cry here for years, and we are just grateful it will continue in Hilltown."
