The owner of a center city Philadelphia art gallery says a receipt dropped by an art thief has been traced to a man who worked at another gallery and was suspected of stealing pieces there.
The thief stole an $18,000 Keith Haring screenprint of late German artist Joseph Beuys from the I. Brewster gallery, in the 1600 block of Walnut Street, and fled on a bicycle, outrunning pursuing employees in the March 7th snow.
"We were all running after him," said Nicky Brewster, gallery owner.
Brewster said the name on a printout of an Ebay receipt dropped by the thief was traced to the other gallery, and that gallery's former employee fit the description of his thief and had bragged about an association with the late Haring.
Brewster said police were looking for the suspect.
