As the global economy falters, Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter told KYW Newsradio listeners on Wednesday morning that the city's cash crunch is likely to worsen.
Mayor Nutter last month warned of a $450-million shortfall over five years for his government. Now, speaking on KYW Newsradio's Ask The Mayor segment, Nutter stressed that that figure will likely worsen:
"There's a lot of concern out there. And of course we've seen that this has become an international crisis. All these things ultimately end up at the doorstep of municipalities like Philadelphia. So we're constantly monitoring it."
All city departments have been ordered to propose belt-tightening tactics to the mayor's budget experts by month's end, and Nutter says he'll provide an update on the state of the city's woes -- and what cuts he'll impose -- in November.
