Hall and Oates Will Headline Phila. July 4th Festivities

by KYW's John McDevitt

Even though there are still reminders of last Friday's winter storm on the ground, Philadelphia is looking ahead to summer and unveiling its plans for the annual "Welcome America" July 4th celebration.

The headliner for the July 4th concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be Hall and Oates.

Daryl Hall and John Oates are no strangers to Philadelphia -- they both went to Temple University and are known for their hits spanning four decades.

Mayor John Street says this year's Welcome America theme will be "Celebrate Freedom":

"This really is a very, very special time for us. As you know, we have perhaps the very best birthday celebration for this country than any other city in the United States of America."

There are a series of events from June 28 to July 4th, including a salsa concert on the Parkway featuring Tito Puente Jr., the popular "Taste of Philadelphia," and performances by the US Army Field Band.
