Leading in the Polls, Obama Makes Stops Across Phila.

by KYW’s Michelle Durham

Senator Barack Obama's first stop in his whirlwind tour of Philadelphia was Progress Plaza on Broad Street.

Senator Barack Obama addressed an enthusiastic crowd and he told them he understood where they were at:

"Pennsylvania's hurting. Philadelphia's hurting. Thousands of jobs have been lost this year, wages are flat some folks are losing their job so fast you can't ask your self whether or not you were better off 4 years ago.  You need to ask if you were better off 4 weeks ago. But it doesn't have to be that way."

Obama said what is needed is change but admitted it's going to take a while to get everything moving again.

Jackie and Mary liked what they heard:

"It's great to see him talk in person, yes, it that made all the difference.  We loved what he had to say it was even better to hear him talk in person."

Obama's Schedule:

First, Obama stopped at Progress Plaza, Broad and Jefferson. Doors opened at 6:15am for an 8:15am event. Then the tour went on to the Mayfair Diner on Frankford between Tudor and Aldine where he made a scheduled 9:30am appearance; next, Vernon Park on Germantown Ave. near Chelten. People were let in at 9am for an 11:15am event, and finally at 52nd and Locust, but the entrance is on Spruce. Folks can get in starting at 11am for a 1:15pm event.
