Flyers Fans Have Mixed Reactions Over Palin's Appearance

by KYW’s Jim Melwert

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was in South Philadelphia Saturday night to kick off the Flyers season. The club insists it was not a political appearance, but fans might beg to differ.

Cheers mixed with boos as Sarah Palin was introduced to the Flyers crowd. She dropped a puck in part of a ceremony honoring an area hockey mom.

Feelings on Palin's appearance were mixed some saying they don't like the idea of mixing politics and sports. But others say politics and entertainment are mixed all the time these days:

"You can say political all you want. Springsteen had a great concert on the Parkway, tell me that wasn't political. You got to separate it."

But detractors say sports are different than entertainment. They say they feel Flyers owner Ed Snider forced his views on his team's fan base.
