It was billed as a rally on the Atlantic City boardwalk to convince the Hasbro company to save a place for the shore resort on its new “Here And Now” edition of the Monopoly game.
Although it was sparsely attended, most of those who did show up to sign a giant petition believe that Atlantic City deserves one square on the new game board.
The new Monopoly board will feature landmarks from around the country, including Las Vegas, but Atlantic City -- whose streets formed the basis for the 1929 game -- is missing in action (see related story).
Most believe Atlantic City is being "disrespected":
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. Atlantic City should definitely be on the board because it’s one of the most important places there is, where everybody comes from all over to go to Atlantic City. So why aren’t we making that known? It sucks.”
But others passing by the event told me there are more important things to worry about today than Monopoly.
