The Sixers teamed up with the Disney people on Wednesday to honor a Bucks County, Pa. woman for her work on autism awareness.
Christine Lynn Fleming’s son was diagnosed with autism six years ago at the age of three.
That prompted this Southampton Township woman to get involved in helping others through the Variety Club, and that got the attention of the team as part of its monthly “Hometown Hero” program.
She got word of the honor at the Sixers training facility on City Line Avenue.
"I don’t feel like a hero. I just think it should be second nature for everyone to do something like this for kids."
Nicholas was thrilled to see Mickey Mouse walk in the room, with 40 tickets for the opening performance of Disney on Ice.
She’ll be honored at a game next month by Sixers center Samuel Dalembert, who noted how the hyperbolic chamber he uses to help his body heal can also aid the brain in battling autism.
