A coalition calling for universal health care held a rally at the Constitution Center on Thursday. The group included the uninsured and the well-insured alike.
Carolyn Banks told the group assembled at the Constitution Center that she fought kidney cancer, but now can't get insurance and fears a recurrence:
"I have grandchildren, and I want to be around to watch them."
It's clear why Banks favors universal health care, but her audience was made up mostly of union members, who have health insurance.
Hospital and health care workers union president Henry Nicholas explains that, under the current system, even the cost of being insured has become a burden:
"At Jefferson, where we represent about 1,500 employees, their costs are over $4-million a month just for health care."
Nicholas says health care reform would lower costs for everyone. The speakers said Governor Rendell's bill to cover all Pennsylvanians is a start and they urged the state senate to pass it.
