Philadelphia public schools and administrative offices will be all be open today, except for ten schools and one early childhood pre-kindergarten center -- those schools will be closed because they're near to the parade route.
Philadelphia school district spokeswoman Cecilia Cummings says the district is closing schools out of concern for students' safety. As for the other schools in the district, she says they need to be open not only for the students, but also for parents:
"Closing schools without providing as much prior notice as possible not only disrupts learning but it also places an undue hardship on parents who are responsible for arranging childcare."
The schools that are closed are:
South Philadelphia High School, the Creative & Performing Arts High School, Norris Barratt Middle School, A.S. Jenks Elementary, E.M. Stanton Elementary, Bregy Elementary, George Childs Elementary, Andrew Jackson Elementary, The Academy at Palumbo High School, Fell Elementary School, and the Ellsworth early Pre-K Center.
