Phillies' Uproar Leaves Some Owners of Damaged Cars Out to Dry

by KYW's Amy Feldman

You may recall that the behavior of some Phillies' fans during last week's World Series celebrations got a little out of hand, and a few cars were damaged (see related story).

Now, those who suffered losses are getting some unpleasant responses from their insurance companies.

Many of those car owners now face an opponent far less likable than a mob of fans -- their own insurance companies, many of which are denying claims.

The most common reason auto insurance claims are denied is because the coverage that is sought is excluded from the policy they bought. So many Philadelphia car owners are now reading their liability and collision policies to find that those policies don’t cover vandalism.

Do you know if yours does?  Find your policy and look at the declarations page, which outlines what coverage you have and at what limits.

For the most part, only "comprehensive" coverage covers vandalism or fire, so consider adding the coverage --  because you never know when you may be staring down the empty bottle of a drunken reveler.
