A Chester County, Pa. man faces fraud and identity theft charges, accused of stealing his estranged wife's personal information.
Everett Frank, 44, is accused of using his ex-wife's personal information to rack up thousands of dollars of car loan debt.
Pennsylvania attorney general's office spokesman Nils Frederiksen says Frank's wife brought the charges to law enforcement's attention when she started getting calls from debt collectors:
"This was a half a dozen cars that were purchased over a six-month period of time, ranging in price from $15,000 all the way up to $43,000. When you total it all up it's about $183,000 worth of cars that were purchased in his wife's name, without her ever knowing about it."
Frederiksen says a good way to keep tabs on identity theft is to check your credit report regularly:
"www.annualcreditreport.com is the web site. You can pull your credit report once a year from each of the three major bureaus."
