Edward Anderton, who along with former lover Jocelyn Kirsch admitted to a ruthless identity fraud scheme that targeted friends, neighbors, and others, has been sentenced to prison for his crimes.

A tearful Anderton was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday -- slightly less than what his partner in crime received.

Before sentencing Anderton addressed the court, saying he's sorry for his crimes, calling them "atrocious" and "immoral."  He apologized to the victims, who included his best friend, other friends, neighbors, fellow students, and strangers.

Anderton spoke in a federal courtroom in Philadelphia. Of his co-defendant, Jocelyn Kirsch, Anderton says he was "a large part of her downfall."
   
Kirsch is serving a five-year prison term on ID theft, money laundering, and other felonies.
 
The judge said that Anderton was motivated only by greed and a desire to live a lavish lifestyle, but also found that the defendent showed remorse and is not likely to be a repeat offender.

Authorities had referred to the couple as "the poster children for identity theft."

Anderton, 25, of Everett, Wash., is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.  Kirsch attended Drexel University.
