Temple Hospital Exhibit Offers Simulated Ride Through Arteries

by KYW's Hadas Kuznits

Temple University School of Medicine has set up a temporary educational exhibit to help promote their new Institute for Preventive Cardiology.

Dr. Sara Sirna says the full-motion exhibit -- on North Broad Street outside Temple Hospital -- is a mini movie theatre that in five minutes simulates the blood's journey through your body:

"This is a virtual artery.  It is an educational tool.  There are pictures and video and audio to educate patients on what causes hardening of the arteries."

She says education is the key to helping people live longer, healthier lives:

"Even if you do smoke, even if you are overweight, even if you don't exercise, if you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, there are ways to reduce those, there are ways to eliminate them.  And with that comes a much healthier heart."

The new institute is set to open in January.
