Another Phila. Police Officer Involved in Car Accident

by KYW's Al Novack

A car crash around 2am on Thursday sent a Philadelphia police officer from the 15th district and another driver, charged with DUI, to the hospital with bumps and bruises.

This crash happens only days after veteran 24th district police Sgt. Timothy Simpson was killed by a driver, also suspected of driving under the influence, at Allegheny and Aramingo Avenues in Port Richmond (see related story).

Police say the officer was treated for neck and back injures and released from Hahnemann University Hospital. Both the officer and the other driver suffered only minor injuries.

The wreck took place at the intersection of Wakeling and Saul Streets in the Frankford section of the city. The officer was traveling east of Wakeling, and the other driver was heading south on Saul when both collided and then hit four parked cars.
