Jeweler Pleads No Contest in Bathroom Video Tape Case

by KYW's John McDevitt

A Center City jewelry store owner pleaded no contest on Thursday to six counts of invasion of privacy for video taping individuals in the bathrooms of his store and home.

Ben Sorkin of "Ben Sorkin Jewelers" at 7th and Sansom Streets pleaded no contest to charges he videotaped three former female employees in the bathroom of his business earlier this year and three family friends showering and using the toilet in his Northeast Philadelphia home about three years ago.

Prosecuting attorney Erin O'Brien:

"He got eight years of sex offender probation and he had to give us consent to search his home and place of business at anytime for hidden cameras, while he is on probation, and he also has to pay a fine and do 200 hours of community service."

The fine is $10,000.
