Phila. Kennel Club's Dog Show This Weekend in Reading

by KYW's John McDevitt

The Philadelphia Kennel Club hosts one of the oldest dog show competitions in the United States this Saturday and Sunday at the Greater Reading Expo Center in Berks County.

The Philadelphia show is a "benched show" which means all of the 1,500 dogs competing must remain on the premises, and the public can visited them.

Bill Burland is the show chairman for the Kennel Club of Philadelphia:

"So the public can come and get a list of where the breeds are and go back and go to the benching area, and they talk to the owners and to the breeders and really get a great perspective on, if they are looking for a dog, what dog is for them. Or they just to get to know the dogs and know the competitors, and it really provides a very, very friendly atmosphere."

Saturday's show will be taped for broadcast and shown on NBC on Thanksgiving Day.

Uno (in file photo), the beagle that won the Westminster show last year, will be there on Saturday -- he's retired form competition -- hes just basking in his fame now and will be there as a celebrity K-9.
