The Pilgrim's Progress (?) in Plymouth, Mass.

On this holiday, Jay Lloyd -- who enjoys getaways to Plymouth, Massachusetts -- reports another crack is developing in the Thanksgiving myth.

by KYW's Jay Lloyd

It’s bad enough that Plymouth Rock is a broken shadow of its former self, and serious doubt exists about how and when the Pilgrims and their Native American chums breaking bread for the first Thanksgiving dinner, but recent events in pristine Plymouth town suggest some jarring changes ahead.

The town fathers have given the go-ahead for a nearly half-billion-dollar movie and television studio to be built on the local golf course.

We know the Scots were hammering golf balls in the 15th century, so the Pilgrims could very well have also been addicted. But TV? And movies? That’s another story.

And while Hollywood has ably abetted the mythmaking that surrounds the original Plymouth colony, Plymouth Rock, Miles Standish, and Thanksgiving, let’s mark the calender now for an early visit to the Rock (top), a replica of the Mayflower (above right), and a lobster dinner at Wood’s on Town Wharf before it completely resembles the weekend leftover turkey.
