Phila. Parking Meters Free After 11am on Saturdays

by KYW’s John McDevitt

It’s a holiday gift for you from the Philadelphia Parking Authority. You won't have to feed the meter after 11am on Saturdays in commercial shopping districts in Philadelphia now through the end of the year.

"We have the free meter parking every Saturday."

Philadelphia Parking Authority spokeswoman Linda Miller says it was as an idea to draw business during the holidays to the city many years ago:

"Its purpose was started over 14 years ago when they were doing more encouragement to revitalize the center city areas to compete with the malls where there was free parking and it has continued ever since."

And it has expanded to all commercial districts with meters in the entire city. So you get a break --only on Saturdays-- now through the end of the year after 11am.
