Should schools be closed on inauguration day, or is the historic event a learning opportunity?
The Camden school district surveyed staff to see who wouldn't be available when Barack Obama takes the oath of office. District spokesman Bart Leff:
"We discovered that we were not going to be able to man the classrooms and maintain a safe and orderly school system as a result of the number of people that said they were not going to be there they were either going to be in Washington, or they were going to be with their families."
So Camden is closing schools on January 20th. In Philadelphia, schools are scheduled to be open.
Superintendent Arlene Ackerman was unavailable for comment on Tuesday. The issue could be a topic of discussion at this afternoon's School Reform Commission meeting.
