An area artist is proud to have designed an ornament for the White House Christmas tree this year.
LisaBeth Weber of New Hope (Bucks County), Pa. says she was so excited to be asked to design a White House Christmas ornament that she wanted to get to work right away:
"The invitation came in the summer, and I thought it would be great to practice on an ornament, and I went to several stores and -- believe it or not! -- nobody had their Christmas stuff out yet!"
So instead of practicing on an actual sphere, she says, she got her sketchbook out. Weber (top photo) says she settled on an environmental theme to represent her district, which is home to a company that makes wind turbines:
"So what I did on the ornament was wind turbines and suns, and I used a lot of color in the ornament. And I wrote on the top of the ornament -- which was very large, actually, it was about a nine-inch ornament -- I wrote 'red, white, blue and green energy.' And along the bottom I wrote 'Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District.' "
Weber was invited for a White House holiday reception with all the other participating ornament creators:
"And it was amazing to be there with several hundred artists. We were all walking around the tree, looking for our ornaments, and we found mine. Some of the artists didn't find theirs because there's so many! But most people did, and there's some amazing ornaments."
