Delco Police Charge Suspect in Murder of Upper Darby Man

by KYW’s Hadas Kuznits

Upper Darby, Pa. police have charged a man in connection with burglary that turned into a homicide about two months ago (see related story).

Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says the 37-year-old man faces home invasion, murder, and a variety of other charges:

"We charged an individual by the name of Jeremy Burgess with the murder of Mr. Ho Pham, which occurred on November the 10th."

Chirwood alleges that Burgess was looking to rob someone and chose the Pham home because the lights were off.

Burgess is accused of tying up Mr. Pham and his wife, beating them both, and killing Mr. Pham after Mrs. Pham escaped from the home:

"As a result of forensic evidence that we recovered, we were able to submit that to both the Pennsylvania State Police and national medical services in Willow Grove and came up with a DNA hit on Burgess."

Burgess faces life in prison, or quite possibly the death penalty.
