What does Philadelphia's young Jewish community do during Christmas Eve? Apparently, they party. But there's going to be some competition to see who throws the superior Jewish Christmas party in Philadelphia.
It all started with the grandfather of Jewish Christmas parties, known as the Matzah Ball, the success of which prompted spin-offs. Now, Jennifer Birch of Pulse Promotions is involved with a Christmas Eve party in Old City:
"The 10th annual 'To Life' Party is our annual event that we hold every Christmas Eve."
Larry Kaplan is throwing one in Rittenhouse square:
"The Spin The Dreidel Party!"
Kaplan is the new kid of the block who started his party because he wanted the profits to go to charity:
"It's like the Dueling Banjos! Christmas Eve!"
(Kuznits:) "There's a lot of Jewish Drama going on!"
"It's almost like Reform versus Conservative versus Orthodox!"
While it might be one against the other, the goal is the same:
"You have a bunch of Jewish people in one room, you would like to think some connections are going to be made!"
"You know a lot of people are going out thinking, 'Hey, this could be the night!'"
"There will be tons of sexy Jewish people there, so it'll happen!"
To Life is being held at Cuba Libre, Spin the Dreidel is being held at Loie.
