People Booking Hotels in Pa. for Obama's Inauguration
|
by KYW's Tony Romeo
Hotel rooms for the inauguration of Barack Obama are booked so far around Washington D.C. that Pennsylvania tourism officials have created a web site designed to generate business here.
Mickey Rowley, deputy secretary for tourism for the Department of Community and Economic Development, would love to take credit for the idea, but he says it came from the simple fact that hotels in York County started to get inauguration bookings because there are no accommodations left near Washington:
“Suburban hotels are all solidly booked – and have been for months. So what we’re capitalizing on is the new fans, those who maybe as recent as November didn’t know they’d be going to Washington, and they’re looking for a place to stay.”
People who visit the website will find information about special inaugural travel packages, and about things to do while staying in various Pennsylvania locations -- including Philadelphia.
Go to www.visitpa.com and click on the “Inaugural Oasis” link under “What’s Happening”
