New Study Raises Concern for Men With Type 2 Diabetes

by KYW medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

It is well known that people who have a history of a heat attack or a stroke have a greater risk of premature death than someone who has not dealt with these issues.

However, a new report raises concern about people with type 2 diabetes or adult onset diabetes.

According to a report from the Laval University in Montreal, men who had type 2 diabetes had similar premature death risks from heart disease as men who had a heart attack or stroke.

The information is based on a study of more than 4,300 men. Those who had type 2 diabetes and men with previous heart attack or stroke had three to four times a greater risk of premature death from heart disease compared to men without heart problems or diabetes.
