Philadelphia Urges Residents to Recycle Christmas Trees

by KYW's Kim Glovas

The Christmas season is over. Now what do you do with the tree?

Philadelphia residents who want to help save some space in the landfills and save the city some money, plus do the right thing for the environment, are being asked to drag their trees to three recycling centers. Deputy streets department commissioner Carlton Williams:

"We're encouraging them to use our recycling centers which are located at Domino and Umbria, which is in the Northwest section of the city; at 3033 South 63rd Street which is at 63rd and Passyunk which is in the Southwest section of Philadelphia; and at State Road and Ashburner which is in the Northeast section of the city."

The trees will be chipped up and recycled into mulch. If the trees are just left at the curb, they will be tossed into a landfill and will cost the city more money for the space. The tree recycling centers are open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm through January 17th.
