For the third time in a little over a month, a Philadelphia judge is in the headlines for allegations of misconduct.
The state Judicial Conduct Board says it has instituted formal proceedings against Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Willis Berry.
A board complaint has been filed, alleging that Berry – who ran for state Supreme Court two years ago – used his judicial chambers, secretary and other court resources for a personal real estate business. Many of those properties, the complaint notes, were in poor condition when purchased, and Willis was issued more than 70 citations by the city Department of Licenses and Inspections during a period of more than 12 years.
In December, it was announced that Traffic Court Judge Willie Singletary and Municipal Court Judge James DeLeon would face sanctions from the state Court of Judicial Discipline for alleged misconduct.
