The price of milk is going down - another sign of the economic downturn.
The bad news for dairy farmers is good news for consumers. The Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board says a gallon of whole milk is 46 cents less this month than it was last summer. Tim Moyer is a spokesman for the board:
"I believe it was in the July time frame, July 2008, when prices were at there high. Primarily, it's a demand issue. The economy overall is weakening and there's less demand for dairy products."
The Milk Marketing Board statistics show that last July, a gallon of whole milk was selling for an average of $4.13. Today, that same gallon is going for $3.67. A gallon of non-fat milk is even cheaper, selling at $3.37.
