Prosecution's Case Against Senator Fumo Enters Final Stage

by KYW's Tony Hanson

The government's case against Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Fumo is moving into its final phase with testimony expected soon on alleged obstruction of justice.

State senator Vincent Fumo (file photo above) is accused of misusing Senate and other resources and trying to obstruct justice by deleting emails and other electronic evidence after this investigation became public. And a former computer tech on the Senator's staff, Leonard Luchko, who was also charged, pleaded guilty, is cooperating with authorities and will testify for the prosecution.

The defense contends Fumo's staff routinely deleted computer information for security reasons and there was no attempt to obstruct justice.

The prosecution is expected to rest in about two weeks then the defense will begin. The defense has not said publicly whether senator Fumo will take the witness stand.
