No Charges to Be Filed Against Football Star Marvin Harrison

by KYW's Paul Kurtz

The  Philadelphia DA's office has decided not to file charges against all-pro wide receiver Marvin Harrison in connection with a shooting that took place in North Philadelphia last year.

Prosecutors say they may never know exactly what happened at the intersection of 25th and Thompson Streets last April. DA Lynn Abraham says there are too many conflicting accounts:

"You have five people giving nine different versions, each of them claiming a different scenario, nobody claiming they saw anything, all this mysterious gunfire going off and nobody knows who did it."

Without an eyewitness willing to testify, Abraham says, she has no case.

The DA has clearly indicated that she believes no one, including Marvin Harrison, who turned over his fully loaded 5.7x28mm Belgian FN handgun to investigators and claimed it had never been fired:

"Ballistics revealed that five of the six cartridge casings found at the intersection of 25th and Thompson were fired from that very same 5.7 caliber gun."

The shooting victim, Dwight Dixon, has filed a civil suit against Harrison, and Abraham says she's looking carefully at the depositions for testimony that might lead to the reopening of the criminal case.
