Federal regulators are fining the operator of the Peach Bottom nuclear power plant in York County, Pa., where guards were found and photographed sleeping on the job (above).
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission fine is $65,000, according to Beth Archer, spokeswoman for Exelon Nuclear, which owns th plant:
"We are going to pay the fine and we are not going to appeal it. And we have made several corrective actions at Peach Bottom to make sure this can't happen again."
She says the guards worked for an outside firm and were discovered sleeping on the job at the plant in 2007. The company was fired, and now Exelon hires and employs its own guards (see related story).
