Drexel University has received a huge financial gift that will let officials buy a new building in West Philadelphia.
The $25-million gift comes from a university trustee who is not an alum and wants to remain anonymous. Mark Greenberg interim provost says the money will be used to buy two properties near 35th and Market Streets. Greenberg admits the timing is a surprise:
"The gift is being made at a time when everybody is pulling back and people are still reeling from the loss of their investments to show the kind of faith and commitment to the mission of this university at such a time is extraordinary."
Once renovated, the buildings will house programs for interior design and media arts.
