Parishioners at St. Margaret's Church in Woodbury Heights (Gloucester County,NJ), have been shocked to learn that a theft had taken place at their house of worship during the 10 o'clock Mass on Sunday.
Andrew Walton, spokesperson for the Diocese of Camden, explains what was taken:
"A wrought iron base that supports votive candles was removed from a chapel and with it the donation box attached to it. The cash lost was only about $40 but it was a very unfortunate incident."
Walton says he has not seen a rise in thefts in these troubled economic times, but:
"It is a matter of policy that all of the more of 125 churches have security systems, comprehensive loss control programs, motion detectors, and alarms for all of our churches."
And he says parishioners at St. Margaret's said a prayer the next day for the person who took the items from their church.
In the meantime, if anyone has information regarding the theft, they are asked to contact Woodbury Heights police.
