Analysis: 'Blue Dog Dems' Take On Stimulus Bill

by KYW's Larry Kane

One week and a day before the inauguration, some Democrats are threatening to hold up the stimulus bill. But there are questions about intentions.

They are called 'blue dog Democrats.' Some of them newly elected and they are fiscally conservative. By our count, 18 of them could join with Republicans and threaten an early or difficult passage of the Obama stimulus plan. Would they dare do it? Congressional sources say the blue dogs might ask for more specifics in the stimulus - more accountability, more cutbacks in spending in certain projects.

They are apparently disturbed over the failure of the current Democratic leadership Twp find out exactly how the Bush bailout money has been spent, something that has still not been forthcoming from either the White House or the Congress.

Watch for the blue dogs to ask a lot of questions and demand a lot of answers.
