Water Ice Chain Execs Meet With Praised Teenage Staff

by KYW's Pat Loeb

A group of students from Pennridge High School in Perkasie, Pa. was heading to Atlantic City on Monday morning to tell business people and corporate executives how they manage to run the highest-rated Rita's Water Ice store in the chain.

Out of 520 stores in 17 states, only the Perkasie store has gotten a perfect 100 from secret quality control inspectors on every one of 11 visits - a record all the more impressive considering the entire staff is between the ages of 15 and 18. Thus, Rita's sprang for a limo ride for the kids to the company's annual business meeting in Atlantic City.

Emily McMordie, 17, says the staff is like a family and they understand their role:

"People come to Rita's because they want a treat. They don't come because they have to. It's not like grocery shopping. They come because they want to have fun so we just make sure they get their order right, get everything they want."

And how many places can really say that?
