Bayfront Homes in Sea Isle, NJ at Risk of Collapsing

by KYW's Ian Bush

Several Sea Isle City, NJ homes are at risk of collapsing into the bay after their bulkheads gave way over the weekend. Three condos have already been condemned.

The problems started on Saturday when the first bayfront retaining wall failed. The balcony of one property along 82d Street plunged into the water below.

The place continued to sink, and city business administrator George Savastano says it was just the beginning:

"The erosion that occurred migrated to the south to the next property."

That one has significant damage. And a third is at risk.

"The property owners are working with their own engineers, contractors, and insurance agencies to try to expedite the repair work. This is all on private residences, and the city is working with them."

No injuries have been reported. Savastano says it's believed the properties are used primarily as summer homes.
