Flemington, NJ Mourns a Hometown Va. Tech Victim

by  KYW's David Madden

At least three of those who died in Monday’s carnage at Virginia Tech came from New Jersey (see related interactive page). One was a native of Flemington (Hunterdon County), where a community is coming together to help the grieving family.

Michael Pohle, 21, was just about to graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in biological science. He was even thinking of staying in the region, according to Craig Blanton, vice-principal at Hunterdon Central Regional High, where Pohle graduated in 2002:

"In my mind, he personifies the term 'student athlete.' But most of all, he was just a good person."

Pohle played lacrosse in high school and college. Several staff members and teachers here in Flemington recalled how Michael would come home and attend sporting events, linking up with old friends.

School psychiatrists have been on hand to help students cope as the family remains in seclusion, planning for a funeral.
