A Mount Airy location in Philadelphia has been selling Barack Obama merchandise to sponsor events leading up to the inauguration and more.
It's called the Obama Boutique and it's inside a local Jackson Hewitt tax office at the corner of Germantown Avenue and Mount Pleasant. But on Tuesday, the boutique was using its proceeds to sponsor an inaugural event. Everett Statten is the proprietor:
"We're sponsoring an inauguration day down at the African-American Museum, because this is a history-making event, and as President-elect Obama, if you noticed, he never really mentions that it's the first black president, but it still is black history."
The boutique is started out selling one button before the primary election. Now, local graphic designers have pitched in with everything from shirts, posters, hand-etched glasses, books, jewelry, and art.
