A project started by people in Bucks and Montgomery counties of Pennsylvania to help rebuild a Mississippi town ravaged by Hurricane Hatrina takes another step forward on Friday.
The Salvation Army Bucks Mont Katrina Project began almost as soon as the winds died down in Mississippi three years ago. It built the new Hancock County Food Pantry with volunteers, donated materials and donations, replacing the one that was destroyed in Katrina.
The new pantry was to be dedicated on Friday and will greatly help the community, especially now, says project manager Collette McBratney:
"Before you had a lot of volunteers in Hancock County. That was helping. It was helping their economy, you were feeding their economy, even though you don't have a lot of stores, you're there, you're helping, developing housing, getting people back in their homes. Now what you have is, a lot of people are gone."
