Longtime Montco Worker Fired for Stealing from Police Chiefs

by KYW's Brad Segall

A longtime Montgomery County employee has been fired amid allegations that he was stealing money from the county Police Chiefs' Association.

Robert Linsinbigler, a 23-year county employee who ran the fire and police training academy, was let go after county officials say they discovered that checks had been written by him for his personal use.

County commissioner Jim Matthews says another employee discovered the discrepancies, and that’s when they confronted Linsinbigler.

Matthews says it’s one of the toughest things he’s had to do as commissioner:

"There is zero doubt in our mind as to what happened, and just enormous regret that this is a longstanding county employee that would do this.”

Matthews says the case is now being turned over to the district attorney’s office for criminal prosecution. He believes the amount taken was $15,000 and that it has been going on since April.

But the county will do a complete financial review of any funds to which Linsinbigler may have had access.  Matthews says the county will also seek the immediate return of the missing money.
