by KYW's Mark Abrams

The man accused in the fatal shooting of Philadelphia police officer John Pawlowski has been released from the hospital and transferred to a prison cell.

Rasheed Scrugs (above), 33 -- who was shot by police during the February 13th incident at Broad and Olney (see related story)  -- was released from Einstein Hospital on Thursday morning.

Scruggs is charged with firing the shots that killed 25-year-old John Pawlowski, a five-year veteran of the force.

Police Lt. Frank Vanore:

"Members of the 35th District as well as their commanding officer and inspector Aaron Horn accompanied a large contingent of corrections officers personnel and he was transferred from the hospital to the prison facility located on State Road."

Vanore says Pawlowski's handcuffs (right) were placed on Scrugs and his patrol car was part of a procession of vehicles to the jail.

Scrugs is charged with first-degree murder and faces a preliminary hearing on March 26th.
