The former Philadelphia Visitors Center in JFK Plaza, mothballed since 2001, has opened its doors once again.
It's that circular building near 16th Street and JFK Boulevard. Fairmount Park executive director Mark Focht says they're now calling it the Welcome Center:
"It really is part of the gateway from center city out to the parks, or if you're coming from the cultural institutions back into center city, which is why the Visitors Center was originally placed here."
They're also kicking off daily entertainment in adjacent Love Park, weekdays from 12 noon to 2pm.
First up on that front was #85 for the Philadelphia Eagles, wide receiver Darnerien McCants -- also an R-and-B singer:
"It's the old school, loving type of R and B music."
He incorporates rhythm and blues music with his special-teams play:
"Without doing one, there is no other. That's just the way I am."
There will also be evening concerts at Love Park for the next three Thursdays -- called "Love Thursdays" -- from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
